| Below are options available to students seeking to complement their master's education in Library and Information Science with a specialty area that highlights their talents or interests. Youth Services Specialization The Youth Services specialization focuses on the information needs of children and young adults. Most graduates from this specialization become childrens or young adult librarians in public libraries and other institutions. Information Library/Services The IL/S specialization provides a strong combination of technical and public services courses that can lead to an entry level position in public, academic or special libraries. School Library Media Specialization and Certification The School Library Media Services plan of study is designed for students who want to work in K-12 school library media centers in both the private and public sectors. This program is designed to certify students in Pennsylvania, but may be transferable to other states. Students living outside of Pennsylvania are encouraged to familiarize themselves with their specific state requirements. Management of Digital Information An MDI specialization prepares information professionals to apply technology to information management processes. Temple Archives Option Students interested in archives management have the option of earning graduate credits by taking one or more courses offered through Temple Universitys history department. The archives management sequence offered through this option satisfies the educational requirement for individuals desiring to qualify for the Certified Archivists (CA) examination. The Archiving Sequence consists of HIS 624 Introduction to Archives and Manuscripts, HIS 644 Research in Archives and Manuscripts, and HIS 643 Internship in Archives. Competitive Intelligence This specialization prepares students to acquire, analyze, deliver, and protect actionable intelligence that supports the strategic objectives of an organization. |
